Memo: # Black Lives Matter
Memo: # Black Lives Matter
#BlackLivesMatter was a hashtag created after George Zimmerman, was acquitted for his crime of murdering Trayvon Martin, what sparked so much up rise is that Trayvon Martin, a young- 17 year old black male who was murdered, was put on trial to be held responsible for his own murder. #BlackLivesMatter hashtag highlighting the unjust ways the black community is treated, mass incarceration quickly became a point of support, making cops the opposing end; though quote, “I look in the mirror and I am black, I couldn’t say black lives don’t matter or blue lives matter, because at the end of the day I take off this vest.” this is a statement made by a Philadelphia police officer that I interviewed. The counter arguments are #ALLLIVESMATTER, which supports the fact that not only black lives matter but views that #BLACKLIVESMATTER is racist, under the assumption it means only black lives matter and another argument is #BLUELIVES matter rallying that the lives of cops are important as well as black lives; Though the collective goal isn’t to say that all lives don’t matter, because they do; it's supporting the fact that black lives are under scrutiny and at the end of the day police officers take off their badges and vests at the end of the day as well as their blues, regardless of race. Though understanding “All Lives Matter” is trying to relate that you shouldn’t highlight a certain group when all lives matter. This causes controversy when the WNBA players can wear shirts in solidarity of the LGBT community and later Black Lives Matter and doesn’t get yelled at because all sexual orientations matter but only because black lives matter. Black lives are deprived of rights of equality, #BLACKLIVESMATTER doesn’t mean Black Lives> White lives/ All lives it means we are fighting for black Lives = White lives/ All lives. This is a neutral stance on what I come to believe of black lives matter please feel free to respond, comment or question in any forum, being art, a letter or any way you can express or react. I would love to see the view off both sides.
